Outreach

Sharing geoscience with the world helps enhance the knowledge and passion that communities have with the physical planet, and creates a stronger and more diverse future for our community of geoscientists. I have been involved in science communication and outreach both in person and through media throughout my career.

In-person outreach events have included:

  • Hands-on demos at many elementary school science nights in the Los Angeles area

  • Presentations and Q&A about geoscience and society at the LA March For Science Expo and Caltech’s partner event Science For March

  • Science comedy festival BAHFest 2020 in Houston, postponed due to COVID-19

  • Several interactive lectures to over 300 school students at a time

  • Supervising Science Olympiad student competition events at state and national tournaments

  • Classroom visit series to Pasadena middle schools integrated with their environmental science curriculum

  • Hands-on demos and presentations at the University of Nebraska State Museum and Behlen Observatory
